Virtualization Primer Found
I came across a virtualization primer
KVM is what Ubuntu 9.10 and later support natively thanks to the additions by the Linux Kernel team. For this reason alone, it makes sense for almost all Linux power users to take a look at KVM as a hypervisor, Dom0, as it were.
The linked article will discuss managing multiple different hypervisors using libvirt, installing MS-Vista as a client with step-by-step instructions, and how to install both Redhat and Ubuntu clients too. I suspect running WinXP or Windows7 as a client should be an easy swap too.
If the first article is beyond your current level, take a look at their Virtualization made easy article to get an overview of virtualization options.
A few caveats on the made easy article
- While the exact details of the article may not be correct, the big picture stuff is close enough for most people new to virtualization.
- Be aware that the article doesn’t list every VT supporting CPU, none of the CPUs that I use are listed and all of them support VT. I have C2D 6600, T8100, E8400, and X6800 CPUs (C2D is Core 2 Duo).
