Localized HD and Cable Channel List 1

Came across an interface that displays a list of cable and broadcast channels for your area by zipcode.

It lists cable QAM and ATSC channels.

I was checking to see when a HD-HomeRun CableCARD tuner that was promised to be on sale in May 2010 would finally become available. Seems it isn’t shipping yet. Last report was the device was going to CableLabs for testing. That was July 14th.

There is a competitor CableCARD tuner card from Ceton, that started shipping this month. It is a quad-tuner for any cable system in the USA. It is too pricey for me at $399.

    HD-Homerun Prime page.

Pricing for this CableCARD device is $249. Place it on your network and you get 3 CableCARD tuners that can be used by any PCs (Mac, Windows, Linux) on the network to stream or record cable channels, including premium content (without no-record tag). I haven’t seen any of my channels set with that, BTW. Obviously, On-Demand stuff can’t be recorded.

Also, if you have a 100base-t network, you probably need to upgrade to 1000base-t networking if you want more than 2 channels at a time. There’s a Netgear router with 802.11N and 4 GigE ports for $45 on newegg this week. That router also supports the huge DD-WRT, OpenWRT or Tomato router firmware replacements.

This HD-Homerun device has been promised since May 2010. There have only been 3 announcements from the company in that time. The last announcement on 11/24/2010 was from the CEO that they were going back to CableLabs for a second round of testing and they hoped to release the design to manufacturing within two weeks. Since there hasn’t been any hews – I expect they failed the testing.
