Too Paranoid? Nope. 3
I’m often told that I’m too paranoid when it comes to computer security because I block ads, flash, javascript, and refuse to surf on the internet with a Microsoft Windows PC.
Well, seems that attacks have been created that come from highly reputable websites – News website included. Every website you visit has potential to infect your system with nasty software. None of them are trustworthy.
Be careful out there folks. We all need to be a little more paranoid because they are out to get everyone, not just you and me.
I couldn’t imagine surfing the web without an ad and script blocker.
Also, new theme? What brought that on?
About the theme change.
When I switched to using Typo for the blog engine, there was a theme that I loved. A few years later and that theme was removed, so I settled with the one that most of you got used to seeing. Nothing fancy, but good enough.
Last week? Well, recently, I did an blog engine update and discovered that the theme I’d been using seemed to break many things – like the tags on the right there. None of those links worked. It seemed to me that it could be theme related, so I put the least offensive other theme in place. This is it. I prefer the old theme, but as with anything new, wanted to see if a new one grew on me over time. It hasn’t, so the next time I’m in that part of the blog engine, I’ll switch it back. I need to do another Rails security update this weekend. Complex software will have security issues, unless the team involved takes security extremely seriously. Somehow I don’t recall seeing any major issues with Perl. Perhaps it just isn’t as popular anymore or the in crowd doesn’t bother publishing those issues?
I’d also point out that all these comments can use a markup called textile. I find it the easiest of the choices to use. In fact, when I create presentations, I use a little perl script to convert textile into something that S5 can use.
Just because you’re paranoid, it doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.
