I feel a little guilty not including Spaceballs and Galaxy Quest anywhere in the list. There are lots of other fun sci-fi movies that are watchable, but have less appeal to wide audiences. I like some “camp” movies; say, Flash Gordon, but not everyone does. There are some huge movies that are just so overdone like Interstellar, Avatar, and all the Back to the Future ones that I just couldn’t bother listing.

One of my favorites is Europa Report for the way it realistically shows space travel, but it didn’t make the list. Space travel is boring, when done right.

As usual, if you enjoy multiple parts in a movie franchise, the others, unlisted, will probably be fun for you too.
