Vitamin D Deficient? Huh?

Seems that vitamin D

  1. isn’t really a vitamin (it’s a hormone)
  2. could reduce cancer risks 77%

I hate stories that could, should, may, might since these are all terms meaning that we don’t know the answer. Here’s a link to a high quality study on vitamin D from Creighton University. It was double-blind with over 1,000 participants. It showed huge differences between the control group and those receiving the supplement. The results were fairly clear.

Get more Vitamin D3 in your body. Go outside and get 20 minutes of sunlight a few times a week.

There are some other things to know about vitamin D, including negatives. IMHO, the positives vastly outweigh the negatives.

It is estimated that 80% of children are deficient in vitamin D. It is possible to overdose on vitamin D supplements, but nobody has proven that it is possible for the body to self-overdose via sunlight creation vitamin D.

They classified the participants a women from Rural Eastern Nebraska, yet 4 of the 9 counties listed were where Omaha or suburbs to Omaha. Sorry, but Omaha isn’t rural. That’s like saying that Austin, TX is rural.

Quote: There is a growing body of evidence that a higher intake of vitamin D may be helpful in the prevention and treatment of cancer, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, diabetes mellitus, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases.

There is building evidence that autism may be linked to a vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy or early childhood. This isn’t a clear cause/effect connection, so it could be proven completely false.
