Haiti Corruption

The entire world knows that Haiti was hit by an magnitude 7 earthquake recently. This was a terrible disaster.

The Haitian government said in this article that they can lead the rebuilding effort.

Haiti’s government is ranked 168 out of 180 on the Corruption Perceptions Index. Should a government with that level of worldwide mistrust be allowed to manage this amount of money?

Haiti is tied with Iran on this index, just to set the standard. Columbia is ranked 75 as another reference point. The USA is ranked 19th.

I’d say, no, the Haitian government can’t be trusted.

This is an opportunity for Haiti to become a trusted government.
Set and enforce building codes for hurricane and earthquake survival. This can be done. I hope Haiti requests and receives anti-corruption aid. Perhaps Colombian leaders can help since they know what it takes to reduce corruption. Colombia isn’t perfect, but they made it out once.
